Facebook user experience might get worse with plan to serve 15 seconds video ads

Facebook, one of the companies that revolutionized advertising, might just forsake its users' satisfaction for the sake of earning more.

Specifics

The 15 seconds ad will cost $2.5 million per day, will be based on age and gender, and, initially, users will have to watch no more than 3 ads per day. So you have to endure 45 seconds of video ads daily to continue to use its services for free. Is this a good deal for you?

At any rate Facebook definitely will not be in danger with this decision. Sure there will be a huge outrage. Complaints will flood Facebook but in the end users will need to comply. Unless of course there is an social service comparable or even better to Facebook's and with almost a decade integration to the Internet world. Sadly, there's none at the moment. We just hope that there is someone out there that can do so and with a different, effective and non-intrusive way of funding its services.

The Verdict

Facebook was created to serve a system where you can, in some sense, humanly interact with other people in computer-mediated environment. But as this report implies, the once young and user-focused company might be gradually focusing on the business side which is another nature of the company.

This will not break Facebook, at least not yet. But it may elicit alternatives to compete with the social giant.
